Cleaning the heating and air conditioning system and ductwork , as well as preventative maintenance, will be a wise investment because it may extend the life of the equipment by years.
• Mold collection. The air-handling unit is one of the primary collection points for mold. Unless the air-handling unit has been recently replaced or serviced, the entire heating and air conditioning system should be cleaned. Some companies offer a low-cost "duct cleaning" that doesn't include the air-handling unit and mechanical components.
• Indoor air pollution. Some researchers claim that indoor air pollution contributes to more than half of all illnesses. Common indoor household pollutants include dust, mold, pollen, insect remains, and odors.
